Helen Coonan is the Chairman of Supervised Investments Australia Limited. Helen is a former Senator in the Australian Parliament, a Cabinet Minister and Deputy Leader of the Government in the Senate. After 15 years’ service to the Parliament Helen stepped down in 2011 to take up corporate roles.
Her current appointments include non-executive directorships of Crown Resorts Limited, Snowy Hydro Limited, Obesity Australia Limited and Australian Children’s Television Foundation. She is a member of the JP Morgan Advisory Council, a consultant to Samsung and Allegis Group, an Ambassador of the Menzies Health Research Foundation and sits on the Advisory Council of the National Breast Cancer Foundation. She is the Chair of the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA), Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority and the Crown Resorts Foundation and co-chairs GRACosway (member of Clemenger Group).
In politics, Helen served as the Minister for Revenue and Assistant Treasurer and had portfolio oversight of the Australian Taxation Office and the Australian Prudential Regulatory Authority. She served on the Cabinet Expenditure Review Committee, responsible for the formulation of the Federal Budget. As Minister for Communications, Helen was a shareholder Minister for Telstra and Australia Post. Before entering politics, Helen had an extensive legal career spanning sole practice as a solicitor, partnership in a large commercial law firm, ten years as a commercial barrister and mediator and practice as an attorney in New York.
